Kamal urges the government. launch a radio service for students
Makkal Needhi Maiam founder Kamal Haasan suggested on Tuesday that the state government launch a student radio service similar to TV stations that broadcast educational content.
In a statement, he cited the initiative of teacher A. Karthik Raja from Kaththazhai, near Bhuvanagiri in Cuddalore district, who created an Internet radio service to help students who only have access to 2G Internet. “About 75 teachers have coordinated their efforts to contribute to this initiative. Thousands of students up to the eighth standard have benefited from it. It doesn’t require a big investment or technological equipment. Up to 300MB of data is sufficient, ”he said.
The radio service has been used 3.2 lakh times and has been in use for over 14,500 hours. “This is proof of its necessity. Students from poor and modest backgrounds can benefit, ”he said.
He said it could help those who don’t have access to laptops, smartphones or an uninterrupted internet connection. “As students constantly watch screens and listen through headphones for an extended period of time, it affects their visual and hearing abilities. Many also suffer from headaches, eye irritation, dark circles, and lack of sleep due to online classes. Most families experience these problems. Radio service can be an alternative, ”he said.
